Edinburgh University Taekwondo was founded in 2006, and since then has grown in both size, accomplishment and renown. Our current coaches are Jonathan Tuckett, 3rd Dan and Peter Pryde, 4th Dan. Previous notable coaches have included Great Britain’s national coaches Master Nikos Jakubiak, 5th Dan, Master David Bailey, 7th Dan, and national Kyorugi coach Kam Dogra, 4th Dan. From its establishment up until the present day the Taekwondo club has attracted students from all across the world, many of whom upon leaving Edinburgh become our international ambassadors.
We host various events, such as gradings, in-club competitions, as well as a range of socials throughout the year. Recently, EUTKD celebrated its 10 year anniversary by bringing together current club members, alumni and our friends from the Glasgow University Taekwondo Club for an evening of Ceilidh dancing. Each year we also look forwar to Korea Day, where we celebrate Korean Culture and demonstrate our Taekwondo skills from both the WT and ITF sides of the club.
For Alumni to keep up to date, make sure you are on our mailing list by emailing taekwondo@ed.ac.uk.

“I have been training Taekwondo for more than 25 years across several countries – Malaysia, Ireland, Scotland and now Korea. Why I love Taekwondo? It is something that never runs out of fashion, when I was a teenager I wanted to be cool, when I was an undergrad I wanted to compete, when I was working I was still fit and wanted to get promoted. Later on I was more into poomsae and helping others. Whatever it is I always find something to work on, physically, emotionally or mentally. When I first moved to Edinburgh in 2004 there was no club at UoE, thanks to the effort of a few enthusiastic students we now have EUTKD for almost 10 years, something I’m very proud of. Recently I passed my 4th dan grading at the Kukkiwon in Seoul. If you want to experience training in the country of Taekwondo’s origin, don’t hesitate join me here!”
